14:16 From the hide this morning with Richard Jeffree - 11 Curlews, 8 Curlew Sandpipers, 6 Dunlin, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Green Sandpiper,  2 Redshank, 2 Snipe, 1 Marsh Harrier, 13 Avocets, 60 Lapwings, 5 Mallard, 9 Blackwits, 1 Coot, 4 Teal, 1 Kestrel, 1 Grey Heron, 8 Cormorants, 23 Greylags (+10 flying), 1 Stoat, 1 Little Egret, 1 Buzzard. 

Over the marshes - 4+ Whinchats, 1 Wheatear.

Egret, 1 Coot, 72+ Lapwing, 15 Avocet, 10 Blk T Godwits, 9 Curlew, 7 Curlew Sands, 2 Dunlin, 2 Common Sands, 1 Green Sand, 1 Snipe, 1 Temminck's Stint, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Ruff, c50 Blk H Gulls, 1 Green Woodpecker, 5+ Buzzard, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Kestrel, plus a large movement of Swallows, Sand & House Martins. RJ/MO'H/DC/CH/MR et.al.

Two Wheatear were in the area around the sluice.

12:04 Haven: 1+ Siskin north over car park.

12:46 Haven scrape: waders still present this lunchtime inc. Temminck's which came to front of island after being disturbed by Marsh Harrier. Only ones I've not seen is any Wood Sands

12:12 5 Siskin south at the Haven this morning as well as 4 Grey Wags and small movement of mipits.

19:59 Haven this evening- Scrape the same as this morning- Temminck’s and 7 Curlew Sands still present. 4 Whinchat by the wooden hide. Of local interest- An Arctic Warbler seen this evening at Gt. Wigborough Church, Abberton.

Steve & Matt added Manx Shearwater to the site year list during their early seawatch this morning.

Wed 3rd Sept 25

A very windy and wet morning so I headed straight to the hide to join Pete, Richard & Mike.

The waders on the scrape had increased with 6 Redshank new in and later in the morning 8 Curlew were a further addition.

From the hide: 1 Mute Swan, 40+ Greylag, 10+ Teal, 3 Mallard, 4 Cormorant, c30 Lapwing, 15 Avocet, 8 Curlew, 7 Blk T Godwits, 6 Curlew Sands, 6 Redshank, 3 Dunlin, 3 Snipe, 2 Green Sands, 2 Wood Sands, 2 Common Sands, 1 Temminck's Stint, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Coot, 2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel. 09:56 Temminck’s still on scrape, appearing briefly from behind  island, plus at least 5 Curlew sands, 2 Dunlin, 6 Redshank, 2 Wood sands, 2 Green sands and 2 Common sands, so far.

 

Tues 2nd Sept 25

Another good day for waders but also better around the bushes with Lesser & Common Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Blackcap and a mixed Tit flock moving around the Dell and small spinney to the south first thing. Brian had already added a bird to the site year list with a Woodlark over the golf course really early.

Mon 1st Sept 25

The water level on the scrape is very low, perfect for small waders and this means there are lots of muddy margins hidden from view, This mornings stint sp took advantage of this and showed for just a few seconds on several occasions before finally giving away his identity late morning as a Temminck's Stint.
