13:59 Wood Sand just shown for couple of minutes, from pillbox. Gone back and landed on front edge out of view again.

18:00 Scrape.  10.30am to 2.30pm.

Wood Sandpiper I saw twice 11.39am & 1.59pm, when spooked came out from nearside bank, right of raft. Green Sandpiper showed well on arrival 1.08pm soon became elusive. 2 Shelduck  6 Avocet,7 Mallards,5 Teal,2 Stock Doves,13 Lapwings, 2 juv Med Gulls, Common Gull, 2 Lesser Black Backed Gulls,5 Black-tailed Godwits.

From the hide this morning: 2 LRP's, 1 Redshank, 1 Green Sand, c100 Blk. H Gulls, 2 LBB, 1  Med Gull (juv.), 1 Greylag Goose, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Lt. Egret, 1 Sedge Warbler and lots of Pied Wags. A large number of Swift were moving high through the site for most of the morning. PRD/PL/DC/MR

A short seawatch from the sluice added nothing of note.

[Caspian tern sneaked past me while I was on the seawall!].

Another good morning on the scrape, nothing rare yet but a nice turnover of birds over the last few days.

08:54 Highlights from this morning’s walk Haven to Frinton: 3 Com Sands on rocks nr outfall; 2 Green Sands + 3 (4 yest eve) Redshanks on Scape; 4 Whimbrel on hay meadow inland from wooden hide; Curlew flying ova; 3 Yell Wags with Pied Wags on GC; Stonechat with fledglings. Colour-ringed 2nd cal Herring Gull (Red ZUT) on rocks.

09:21 ZUT was ringed as a chick in Felixstowe Docks last July. Only other sighting was near Felixstowe Pier last August.

Thankfully the sea breeze was keeping the temperature bearable this morning but it was still very warm. A quick walk to the hide showed that both Green and Common Sandpipers were still with us along with a Dunlin (PRD first thing), 1 Avocet, 2 Oystercatchers, 2 Redshank, 7 Lapwing, 1 Grey Heron, lots of Blk H Gulls, 2 LBB's, 1 Common Gull. Just a short visit this morning before it warmed up too much, with a amber warning for high temperatures for our region and hotter to come tomorrow.

The new bird for today was a Green Sandpiper on the scrape this morning with 8 Lapwing, 2 Oystercatchers, 1 Redshank, 1 Avocet, 13 Mallard (6 adults - 7 ducklings), 2 Grey Heron, c130 Blk H Gulls, 5 Herring Gulls, 2 Med Gulls, 2 LBB, 1 Common Gull, 1 Buzzard. PRD/DC/MR.

It's great to see a steady increase in the water level on the scrape and Leon's Marsh.

Today the first autumn Common Sandpiper was seen along with 10 Lapwing, 4 Avocet, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Dunlin, c150 Blk. H Gulls, 10 Herring Gulls, 3 Med Gulls (+ 7 over), 2 LBB, 5 Grey Heron, 1 Buzzard. PL/RJ/MR.

The two juv Kestrels from the pylon box were hunting along the front near the boating club when I walked to the hide, not bothered with the number of people around.

13:14 Fairly quiet on the bird front  this morning as you would expect at this time of year. Both Leon’s marsh and the Scrape have water and should be good in time for the autumn passage waders. On the Scrape were 2 Adult Dunlin and a juv. Ringed Plover plus 10 Lapwing ,1 Shoveler and 2 Adult Med Gulls. 3 Juvenile Stonechat were in the reeds at the back of the Scrape and the Adult female Stonechat was feeding a very recently fledged youngster down by the golf course dump.1 Ad with a juv Med Gull flew along the front and a couple of Sand Martins flew through.(RJ,PL).

08:05 Early Frinton-farm-gc (footpath)-seawall loop highlights 0530-0700.  Hobby and 2 singing Corn Bunting on way up to farm, the Green Woodpecker family around the farm plus 2 Hares in the northern paddocks.  11 Curlew and 3 Yellow Wags on gc plus a lovely group of c80 feeding Swallow which included a few House and Sand Martin and Swift.  28 and 36 respectively south of the latter two species (haven area only) plus a high flying G S Woodpecker over the seawall. Single Whimbrel south offshore.

A quick visit this morning showed 6 Lapwing, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Avocet, 1 Grey Heron on the scrape with 17 Blk Headed, 8 Herring, 2 LBB and 1 Common Gull. A group of young Swallows were on the wire at the back of the sluice.

Very warm out today, but even with this heat and the lite wind we seem to be keeping up with evaporation.

A Greenshank was on the scrape this morning along with c100 Blk Headed Gulls,12 Herring, 5 Meds, 4 LBB, 2 Commons, and a Grey heron was still thinning out the eel's PRD/DW/DC/MR

The 1st sum Little Gull was on the scrape again this morning along with c70 Blk Headed, 14 Herring, 4 Med Gulls, 3 LBB, 2 Common Gulls and 7 Lapwing. The two Grey Herons were still pulling eels out of the pond, watched by the first pair of Teal seen for a while. All looking much more interesting for the weeks ahead. PRD/PL/RJ/ML/MR

Thankfully there was some water on the scrape this morning, so with a fair wind things should start to improve over the next few weeks.

Two Grey Herons were feasting on eels from the pond to the right of the hide, one juv flying to the scrape each time to eat his meal before returning for the next catch.

A short seawatch from the sluice added 5 Med Gulls heading north plus 2 Curlew and a Sandwich Tern heading south. PRD/RJ/MR.

A cloudy but warm morning at the Haven today, unfortunately not enough wind to turn the wind-pump 50+ Blk Headed Gulls on the scrape with a single adult Med Gull, a couple of Buzzards and a Kestrel over the arable with a few Swallows. PRD/MR

Pete Davis had two unseasonal R B Mergansers heading south offshore around mid-day.

Lots of Small Skippers and Ringlets around today (see Haven Wildlife page).

The good news is that some repairs have been carried out on the windpump, so hopefully with a steady breeze we may see some water return to the scrape in the near future. Just the gull flock on the scrape this morning inc. 1 Med Gull, 6 Herring and 2 LBB's with lots of Blk Headed Gulls, 2 Buzzard and a Kestrel were over the marsh and a few Swallows, the 2 juv. Kestrels were around the pylon and lots of butterflies around the site. RJ/MR

13:46 1st visit to the Haven in a month, sad to see the Scrape dried out, hopefully problems will get sorted sooner rather than later. Very quiet, undoubted highlight was lunch in the cafĂ©. Was nice to see the female Stonechat bringing food to the nest, now on her second brood. 2 Curlew headed south as did a couple of Swifts and a trickle of Sand Martin. (ML,RJ,DC,PL).

Had a quick walk down to the hide this morning and managed to see an Otter on the brook, the first for a long time, and what a great few moments it was.

From the hide: A good group of gulls again today with 50+ Blk Headed, 28 Herring, 13 LBB, and a Med Gull also 3 Grey Heron, 1 Lt Egret, 1 Oystercatcher, 30+ Swallows and a few Sand Martins, 1 Buzzard. MR.
