Thurs 30th June 22

Richard had 3 Common Scoter this morning, just before I arrived but a further 40 mins looking out to sea added just 3 Curlew & 2 Oystercatcher heading south and a Cormorant heading north.

Although the scrape is dry it seems to be attracting a bit of a gull roost with c100 Blk H Gulls, 13 Herring Gulls, 3 Med Gulls (2 ad &1 1st sum), 1 Common Gull. also 2 Oystercatcher & 2 Lapwing. RJ/MR

10:07 3 Common Scoter north past the sluice.

At the end of June the number of species recorded at the Haven this year stands at 144.

 

Wed 29th June 22

I started at the farm this morning, all the usual stuff was about including Corn Bunting, Goldfinch, Linnet, Skylark and Green Woodpecker, 2 Juv. Kestrels were working on their flight skills and a brief Hobby drifted off toward Kirby. On the way down to the golf course c50 Swallows, c25 House Martins and a few Swifts were hawking over the barley field and a Chinese Water Deer was on the edge of the field before seeing me and bounding off through the crop. 

Reed Warbler and Reed Bunting were singing from the reedbeds along the front and a Juv. Stonechat was near the dump. 

From the hide, the scrape is now completely dry but strangely 2 adult and a juv. Canada goose were wandering around a Med Gull was in with a mixed gull flock of around 30 birds and 2 Buzzards and a distant Red Kite were also seen. A Muntjac Deer was barking from the bushes beside the hide for at least 20 minutes during my visit. PRD/RJ/MR.

17:28 Frinton/Haven/farm loop this morning: 2 Cetti’s Warbler (singing), 1 Yellow Wagtail (west over golf course), 7 Reed Warbler (singing), 4 Reed Bunting (singing), 8 Linnet, 3 Sedge Warbler (singing), 7 Swift, 6 Whitethroat (singing), 1 Song Thrush (singing), 1 Blackcap (singing), 1 Goldcrest (juvenile in trees by car park), 10 Lapwing (landed briefly on scrape then south), 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Grey Heron (standing on hide at one point!), 2 Buzzard, 6 Corn Bunting (3 singing), 30+ Swallow (20  together west edge of golf course, 2 Stonechat (juveniles, main pile of logs north of southernmost pillbox).

 

Mon 27th June 22

Sadly still no water on the scrape, but a large group of Gulls including 7 Med Gulls were roosting on the mud PRD. Quite a few 5 spot Burnet moths around now otherwise very quiet. MR
