Sat 30th April 22

The were a few more things around this morning, Matt had the first Cuckoo seen this year while watching the Ring Ouzel still around the chippings lay-by for it's 6th day. Later he and Richard had 30+ Whimbrel on the golf Course and a male Stonechat along the front.

On the Scrape were 2 new Green Sandpipers plus:- 2 Canada Geese, 10 Shelduck, 6 Teal, 2 Shoveler, 2 Mallard, 1 Gadwall, 21 Avocet, 4 Redshank, 3 Snipe, 3 Whimbrel (over), 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Spotted Redshank, Blk Headed Gulls, 2 LBB, Cetti's Warbler, Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler, Linnets, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Buzzard, 1 Peregrine, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel. 07:37 Male rouzel still in field from chippings lay-by + Cuckoo

16:51 Visit the morning- Cuckoo and rouzel from chippings lay-by. Another Cuckoo on marsh from approach road. Brief snatch of song from a Willow Warbler In ringing compound. 

On scrape- Water Rail, Spot Red, 2 Green Sands, 5 Snipe. Peregrine and Marsh Harrier seen plus few Swallows through. 30+ Whimbrel on Golf course.

Just a short visit to the Haven for me this morning, but the site was well covered as you can see.

From the Hide: 3 Canada Geese, 12 Teal, 10 Shelduck, 8 Shoveler, 2 Mallard, 19 Avocet, (inc. GB/GY), 10 Black T Godwits, 1 Bar T Godwit, 4 Snipe, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Lapwing, 1 Spotted Redshank, Cetti's & Sedge Warbler

Thurs 28th Apr 22

There was no sign of the Ring Ouzel on my way to site this morning but it was back, actually in the chippings lay-by around mid-day.

Quiet around the bushes, Blackcap, Whitethroat and Lesser Whitethroat singing but in no great numbers. A lot more Swallows about today but still no Martin's.

I wonder what this pair are thinking

On the Scrape: 3 Canada Geese, 2 Greylag, 14+ Shelduck, 4 Shoveler, 4 Mallard, 4 Teal, 3 Gadwall, 27 Avocet, 4 Lapwing, 3 Redshank, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Snipe, 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, Cetti's & Sedge Warblers (in front of hide). PRD/RJ/BW/MR

 

Wed 27th Apr 22

The Ring Ouzel was back in the set-aside beside the chippings lay-by again this morning showing well. The Spotted Redshank was still on the scrape otherwise as of late. PRD/RJ/BH/DW/SE/MR et al.

 

Tues 26th Apr 22

No sign of the Ring Ouzel this morning, but a cracking pair of Yellowhammers at the farm were a bonus.

Bird of the day had to be a Coot (a mega for the scrape nowadays) found by Pete Davis first thing, otherwise things were much the same, just 36 Avocet, Spotted Redshank, Redshank, Snipe, 2 BlkWits, Shoveler, Shelduck, Teal, Gadwall, Mallard, 3 Common Gulls and a pair of LBB Gulls seem to have found the nesting birds on the island and were causing mayhem for a while (not looking good for the Avo's & Blk Heads). 

A lot more song around the site this morning.

 

Mon 25th Apr 22

Brian Small had an early start this morning and locate a male Ring Ouzel in the set-aside field west of the chippings lay-by. It was showing well at 07:30 when arrived and did so for the next hour, feeding close to the lay-by with 2 Blackbirds, after Marsh Harrier passed over the field it flew to the back hedge and after a few minutes dropped behind the hedge and was lost to view.

Things on the scrape were much the same, with the Spotted Redshank still on view, 54 Avocet & 20 Common Gulls being the highlights. PRD/DW/BH/MR et al.

 

Sun 24th April 22

After he excitement of yesterday it was back down to earth this morning. 

The Spotted Redshank was still on the scrape as were 45 Avocet, 3 Canada Geese, 17 Shelduck, 6 Teal, 6 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, 3 Redshank, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Snipe, 9 Common Gull, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Lt. Egret, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 3 Curlew &  Bar-tailed Godwit flew through. 2 Whimbrel headed north offshore. RJ/MR
