Very little wind this morning made a pleasant change but it was a bit damp and misty first thing. The bushes were quiet again with a single Chiffchaff and a couple of Blackcaps the only birds of note around the Dell area, and another Chiff in the carpark bushes, c20 Swallow and a few Mipit were heading south.
Things picked up a bit at the sluice with a R T Diver fishing close offshore, while watching the Diver two waders landed on the sluice rocks, the first a Knot, (quite a rarity at the haven) the second a Purple Sandpiper and they joined 4 Turnstone.
2 Mute Swans were on the brook behind the sluice with 6 cygnets.
On the scrape: 44 Greylags, c40 Teal, 12 Shoveler, 2 Wigeon, 1 Shelduck, 5 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 34 Lapwing, 12+ Snlpe, 10 BlkWits, 5 Avocet, 1 Curlew Sandpiper (bird of the day but only seen for a few minutes before flying out SW), 2 Common Gulls, 1 Med Gull were with Herring & Blk. Headed Gulls, 3 Buzzards, 1 Peregrine.
On the return a large Tit flock containing 1 Chiffchaff was in the bushes behind the sluice, 1 Lt. Grebe was on the brook, 6 Brent and 6 Shelduck headed north offshore. RJ/MR
