Sun 22nd Aug 21

Not quite early enough to catch Pete Loud this morning, just a couple of extra bits on the scrape mid morning with a single Green Sand and a cracking Spotted Redshank that dropped in around 10:00.

Reports from today:

Pete Loud

12:03 4 Little Terns went north past French Point at 7:30 this morning, a real rarity at the Haven nowadays and a year tick for me. Quiet at sea today, 2 Sandwich Terns and 2 Curlew only birds of note. 1 Whinchat and 3 Wheatear were on the seawall opposite the golf course, with 4 Whimbrel on golf course. 3 Common Sand and Turnstone on the rocks. Scrape 18 Blackwit, 2 Dunlin, 9 Snipe, 17 Avocet, 40 Teal and a Shoveler. Marsh Harrier over the arable. Just 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Reed Warbler and a couple of both Lesser & Common Whitethroat round the bushes. Good flock of 50 House Martins went through with 1 Swift about 7am.

13:02 A few bits in haven area during the half marathon - Yellow Wag south, 2 Sandwich Terns offshore and Common Sand heard   A Hobby came in off probably just within the boundary about 11:10. Well done to ML for his run raising money for Titchwell - bit faster than me so probably less birding! ;0).

16:17 Pied Fly feeding station.

16:24 Now 2 Pied Flycatchers and a Willow Warbler. Clearly birds arriving now wind turned to have a bit of east in it!

19:39 4 little tern north. 3 Black Tern south amongst 2014 terns so far…since 19:20.

20:41 Haven this afternoon/evening- Bushes- 3+ Pied Flys (3 along sewage farm hedge, 1 prob in dell (naked eye only). 2 Willow Warbler, 3+ Lesser White and a Reed Warbler. On scrape- no sign of Spot Red. 2 Common Sand, Green Sand, 3 Snipe and 13 Blackwit.

Scoffed my dinner and back for the terns watch.

220 terns between 19:20 and 19:45 vast majority Commons and all south. 3 Black Tern (inc brief lingering bird @19:25 by yellow buoy) and 4 Little Tern N (all juvs). What a way to finish the day!

I had an afternoon visit after Matts Flycatcher message and was lucky enough to join him watching at least 3 Pied Flycatchers along the sewage works hedge.
