Wed 17th April 19

The morning started with a message from Max Martin saying that a Common Whitethroat* (first of the year) was showing well around the mounds area and a second was in bushes along the brook below the mounds with a Lesser Whitethroat. I joined him soon after and both species were still showing along with Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff and a pair of Stonechats.

At the hide a Greenshank* (first of the year) was found along the back edge of the scrape and the Spotted Redshank was still on site, sadly the Greenshank flew out after 20 mins just before a flock of 11 Dunlin dropped in (a further 5 Dunlin dropped in later in the morning).

From the hide :- .2 Canada Geese, c24 Shelduck, c30 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 2 Wigeon, 20 BlkWit's, 16 Avocet, 16 Dunlin, 6 Lapwing, 4 Redshank, 2 Oystercatcher,  1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Greenshank,  MM/TS/JH/IM/MR

The best of a morning walk around the farm were 2 Coal Tit, 2 Corn Bunting, pair of Mistle Thrush feeding young and a single Whimbrel.

A Single Adder and a Water Vole were the high points on the wildlife front (see Haven Wildlife Page)
