All seemed much the same on the scrape this morning until after about half an hour, when two Spoonbills appeared from behind the reeds. Two Tufted Duck seen by Brian on his way in from Frinton were new for the site year list




From the hide: 7 Canada Geese, 5 Greylag, 2 Spoonbills, 3 Grey Heron, 2 Lt. Egret,  10+ Mallard, 7 Shelduck, 3 Gadwall, 12 Avocet, 4 Redshank, 2 Blk T Godwit, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Common Sand, 4 Lapwing (+1 Chick), 2 Moorhen (+5 chicks), plus the normal Warblers etc.SC/RJ/BC/MR et.al.

17:08 Walk from Frinton to Haven and back via the farm included: 2 Spoonbill (lovely), 2 Tufted Duck (pair in ditch north of where the wooden hide was), 1 Swift (north), 2 Corn Bunting (singing, one western edge of golf course, one halfway along footpath - the former could just be heard from the seawall), 7 Cetti’s (singing), 28 Swallow, 22 Starling (juvs), 6 Pied Wag, 15 Reed Warbler (singing, including 4 in the tiny stand of reeds along the footpath west of the golf course), 19 Linnet, 6 Reed Bunting (singing), 5 Sedge Warbler (singing), 1 Sparrowhawk, 14 Whimbrel (on golf course), 5 Whitethroat (singing), 16 Avocet, 4 Redshank, 1 Lapwing chick, 1 Common Sand, 3 Gadwall, 2 Buzzard, 1 Greenfinch (singing), 3 Lesser Whitethroat (singing), 3 Blackcap (singing), 2 Hare, 2 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Mute Swan, 6 Chiff (singing). 21 species in song.
