Much the same again today, on a very wet morning. The Common Sand was still at the back of the scrape and a cracking summer plumage Golden Plover dropped in for a couple of minutes before being sent packing by the Lapwings, otherwise numbers as of late. RJ/DC/MR.

Another very quiet morning, with just a Common Sandpiper new on the scrape, otherwise much the same.

A hunt around the bushes for Spot Fly was unsuccessful this morning but quite a few of the residents still in good voice.

Thankfully a Cattle Egret put in an appearance to the right of the hide to brighten up the morning, a cracking bird in breeding plumage, spent some time in with the cows out on the marsh.

Very quiet this morning from the hide absolutely no sign of a Spoonbill, five minutes after I got home I saw Matt's message, just amassing.

From the hide: 2 Mute Swans (also 2 on the brook behind the sluice with 3 cygnets), 4 Canada Geese, 2 Greylag, 36+ Shelduck, 12 Gadwall, 12 Mallard, 3 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Shoveler, 10 Avocet, 5 Lapwing, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Redshank, 6 Swallow, Cetti's Warbler. Plus 5 Sanderling were on the beach north of the sluice.

Just a short visit for me this morning and things were again very quiet with just the normal candidates on show. Things picked up a bit for Matt Lonsdale later in the day when a Wood Sand and a couple of Black-tailed Godwits were on the flood, but bird of the week had to be a stunning Slavonian Grebe he had close offshore. Nice one Matt !

After the quiet day yesterday it was all change this morning, the Garganey was showing again along with a Wood Sandpiper and 14 Blk T Godwits plus 5 species of raptor including a Hobby and a Hen Harrier.

A lovely morning for a walk down to the hide after spending a while at the lay-by, but no sign of yesterdays Shrike.

13:32 Fortunately just managed to make it for the Red- backed Shrike, Cracking bird, but only showed for 20 minutes, then disappeared into the back hedge at the top of the channel that runs away from the hide.left site about 12 noon Many thanks to Mike for the lift there and home.

A quick trip to the hide after Simon's message and the Temminck's Stint was still showing well although being harassed by the nesting Lapwings.

07:44 Seawall run through the site - just paused to view scrape on way back now the mist has cleared.  Greenshank in flight landed somewhere on the flood whilst two small waders too distant to ID with bins only - very clean below, horizontal feel to them so hopefully someone will get a scope view later. Otherwise two Little Egret and Cuckoo of note  35 Whimbrel gc.

A very wet morning meant a short visit to the hide, sadly no sign of yesterdays Citrine Wagtail. The rain however did mean a few waders were dropping in with 2 Bar T Godwits and a Grey Plover early on and 4 Grey Plover, 6 Dunlin and a Whimbrel during the morning. A Kingfisher was also a nice addition. One brave soul who braved the rain was rewarded with 1 Purple Sand and a Turnstone along the front. Otherwise much the same numbers around the scrape. 10:57 2 Sandwich Tern just circled flood from hide. 4 Grey Plover in/out + 6 Dunlin and brief Blue-headed type wagtail.

12:15 The G W Egret in ditch right of hide and additional 2 Sandwich Terns best from hide. Little around the bushes but rain still heavy.

Thurs 2nd May 24


Everything took a back seat after Richard and I found a Citrine Wagtail at the back of the flood this morning, a steady flow of admirers kept us busy and there was lots of chat with people not seen for a while. Pied Wag, White Wag and Yellow Wag were also noted, the Gt. White Egret had a few flights over the scrape, the Spotted Redshank also put in an appearance otherwise much the same. Will it still be there in the morning?
