Thurs 17th Sept 20


I started the morning by joining Simon, Laurence and Matt who were sea-watching from the sailing club shelter, sadly a little bit late as the Shearwaters had been and gone, see reports below.

From the hide:

250+ Teal, 2 Shelduck, 30+ Lapwing, 3 BlkWits, 3 Dunlin, 1 Lt. Stint, 1 Redshank, 1 Ruff, 150+ Blk. H Gulls, 25 Herring Gulls, 3 LBB, 1 GBB, 1 Common Gull, 1 Caspian Gull, 6 Cormorants, 2 Grey Heron, 2 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel. MR

Matt Turner

Morning sea-watch. 1 Manx Shearwater (yeartick), 5 Gannet, 2 Guillemot, breeding plum RTD close, 30+ Scoter, 6 Pintail, c15 Wigeon, 4 Brent plus 5 Dunlin, 4 BlkWits, 2 Snipe, 1 Redshank & 1 Little Stint on scrape. Simon also had a Sooty Shearwater N first thing.


John Hall

16:08 15.15 Scrape: 4 Dunlin, 1 Redshank, 1 Ruff, 2 Blackwits, 1 Curlew, 1 Little Stint still showing, 7 Cormorant, 2 Shelduck, rest as per usual.

0655-0825: Sooty Shearwater N at 0700 (seen by Paul shortly after), Manx Shearwater N c0800 (with MT & LD--also s/b Paul shortly after), Gannet 7, Brent 7, Med Gull 1 ad, Sandwich Tern 2. Duck numbers approximate: Common Scoter 15, Pintail 4, Teal 15, Wigeon 2 (possibly more).
